Suckling Pig or Sucking Pig, as it is sometimes known, is a special delicacy in many countries today. As far back as the 1st Century A.D. in ancient Rome, according to Apicius, it was roasted with pastry and honey stuffing.
Over the years at Pugh’s Piglets we have seen the tastes and styles change in the products our customers want us to create for them. For over 20 years now we have produced a boned and rolled Porchetta Piglet weighing around 6 – 7 kg each.
In 2013 we had a huge amount of requests for a true small boned and rolled suckling pig that could be oven ready, to produce a whole animal for the dinner table with dramatic effects, took us a while but in 2014 the true boned and rolled suckling pig product was created. Each piglet when boned and rolled will weigh in the region of 6 -7 kg each and depending on how it is being served will feed around 20 people. This product due to its size will fit in domestic size ovens as well as large catering ovens (which would be able to accommodate more than one animal to roast for all events), each table could have a whole piglet to carve.
